ACTIVITIES OF THE EDC

  • Educational and training activities: organisation of meetings, conferences and seminars on Community issues and training courses on EU databases
  • Research activities: the publication of a series of monographic studies "Journals of the EDC" aimed at a deeper analysis of the EU policies
  • Dissemination activities: organising events aimed at the general public (such as the annual Europe Day, on 9 May), in collaboration with Eurodesk and Antenna Europe Direct of the City of Ferrara, with which there is a memorandum of understanding for the performance of common activities

PUBLICATIONS OF THE FERRARA EDC

The EDC has its own publishing line which, since the Sixties, has published a series of research studies on topics related to European policies and to the history of European integration. The latest publications have examined topics such as EU environmental law, the rights of prisoners and European prisons, renewable energy and sustainable energy planning. The line has also published the proceedings of conferences organised by the CDE, such as the one entitled "Feed the planet? The role of Europe in world economic and food development".

  • Consultation service and loan of the principal publications of the European Union, as well as monographs and Community-related periodicals by other publishers

LIBRARY OPENING HOURS

  • From Monday to Thursday 09:00 – 13:30

 

If users need to RETURN a book in the afternoon, they can do so at the Law Library. To make a LOAN in the afternoon, users can reserve a book in the morning (by phoning or sending an email to the EDC) and collect it from the Law Library in the afternoon. To use this loans service, users must NOTIFY the EDC Library that they intend to collect the book from the Law Library. Without notification, this service will be unavailable.

  • CATALOGUE OF THE LIBRARIES UNION OF FERRARA

    • The catalogue of the libraries of the University, the Municipality and the Province of Ferrara. It contains all the publications in the EDC and can be searched by author and/or title, or a free search can be done by selecting only the document type (book, audiovisual, etc.), or a particular library. If you are a member of the Libraries Union of Ferrara and have a username and password, you can login and check the status of current loans, reserve publications, request inter-library loans or suggest the purchase of a document.

     

    The catalogue of all Italian libraries which are members of the National Library Service. If the publication you require is not in the catalogue of the Libraries Union of Ferrara, you can search for it here to see which Italian library has it.

     

    FIND-ER is the online catalogue of the Central Library of the European Commission and contains both the library's paper and its electronic collections. Most resources are available online: the full text of articles, eBooks, databases, etc. Find-er has a wider coverage than the previous ECLAS database. Search menu in English, French and German

     

    The archive covers all disciplines and contains the bibliographical descriptions of all journals held by the libraries of the University of Ferrara, including the EDC, and by the other Italian libraries belonging to the ACNP. It allows you to check which library holds a journal and find out how to request the articles you are interested in. To complete the documentation, an archive of extracts has been compiled which can be accessed directly via the Article Collection.

     

    A free access, full-text catalogue of Community electronic periodicals. A search can be made, apart from by title, institution or author, also by subject (all Community policies are covered, from agriculture to transport) and, in some cases, by type (statistics, for example, can be searched separately).

    WHAT IS THE EDC?

    • The European Documentation Centre (EDC) of the University of Ferrara is an interdepartemental centre that is part of the information network of the EU and is regulated by a convention between the University and the European Commission.
    • The EDC network has been established since 1963 in Member States and in third countries with the aim of disseminating information about the Community in universities and research institutes. There are now 70 Centres, 50 of which are in Italy.

    PURPOSE

    • To collaborate with the university in promoting teaching and research in the field of European integration
    • To make accessible to the public, including non-university members, information on the European Union and its policies
    • To participate in the debate on the European Union, establishing contacts with other members of the European information network

    • the authentic Official Journal of the European Union
    • EU law (EU treaties, directives, regulations, decisions, consolidated legislation, etc.)
    • preparatory acts (legislative proposals, reports, green and white papers, etc.)
    • EU case-law (judgements, orders, etc.)
    • international agreements
    • EFTA documents
    • summaries of EU legislation, which put legal acts into a policy context, explained in plain language
    • other public documents.

    It also allows you to follow the procedures leading to the adoption of legal acts.

    The database is updated daily with some texts dating back to 1951. Each document is displayed with analytical metadata (publication reference, dates, keywords, etc.) organised behind different tabs. Text is the default tab that opens. Document information contains the information about the document (metadata). Depending on the type of document accessed, other tabs might be available (for example Procedure, National transposition, Summary of legislation etc).

    A document can be displayed in up to 3 languages simultaneously. By default, the first language is set to the current language of the user interface.

The Reports are an official publication of the case-law of the jurisdictions which form the Court of Justice of the European Union.

    These Reports of Cases are composed of general Reports, setting out the case-law of the Court of Justice and the General Court, and the Reports of Staff Cases, setting out the case-law concerning civil service matters of the General Court and the Civil Service Tribunal.

    The general Reports and the Reports of Staff Cases were published in paper format until 2011 and 2009 respectively. For that period only the paper version is the official publication. It is still available at the Office of Publications. A pdf version of those decisions is also available on EUR-Lex.

    With effect from 1 January 2012 (general Reports) and 1 January 2010 (Reports of Staff Cases) respectively, the Reports are published exclusively in digital format on the EUR-Lex site (official publications accessible free of charge). This site (Curia) also gives access to Reports published on EUR-Lex.

    The digital Reports are composed of a set of legal decisions, accompanies, as appropriate, by Opinions or the view of the Advocate General, in pdf format.

    With a view to making it easier to consult those decisions, other pieces of information are added, together with html versions with hypertext links. That information does not form part of the digital Reports and is not official.
